We use cookies to personalise content and ads, to provide social media features and to analyse our traffic. We also share information about your use of our site with our social media, advertising and analytics partners who may combine it with other information that you’ve provided to them or that they’ve collected from your use of their services.

Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site.

  • First party cookies are cookies set by the website you're visiting. Only that website can read them. In addition, a website might potentially use external services, which also set their own cookies, known as third-party cookies.
  • Persistent cookies are cookies saved on your computer and that are not deleted automatically when you quit your browser, unlike a session cookie, which is deleted when you quit your browser.

Every time you visit our websites, you will be prompted to accept or refuse cookies. The purpose is to enable the site to remember your preferences (such as user name, language, etc.) for a certain period of time. That way, you don't have to re-enter them when browsing around the site during the same visit.

Cookies can also be used to establish anonymised statistics about the browsing experience on our sites.

How do we use cookies?

Currently, there are four types of cookies that may be generated as you browse our site: Strictly Necessary, Statistics, Preference and Marketing cookies.

1. Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for you to browse the website and use its features, such as accessing secure areas of the site. Cookies that allow web shops to hold your items in your cart while you are shopping online are an example of strictly necessary cookies. These cookies will generally be first-party session cookies. While it is not required to obtain consent for these cookies, what they do and why they are necessary are explained in the table below.

How do I control Strictly Necessary Cookies?

You can use your browser settings to control whether or not we set session cookies. More information on your browser settings is provided at the bottom of this page.

Please be aware that these cookies are critical to the efficient working of the site. If you choose to disable these cookies from this site, the functionality of the site may be greatly reduced.

2. Statistics Cookies

Also known as "performance cookies," these cookies collect information about how you use a website, like which pages you visited and which links you clicked on. None of this information can be used to identify you. It is all aggregated and, therefore, anonymized. Their sole purpose is to improve website functions. This includes cookies from third-party analytics services as long as the cookies are for the exclusive use of the owner of the website visited.

Statistical information is used in reports and to improve our site. For example, we have used analytics data to add, remove or change features of the site based on how popular they are with users.

We track, for example:

  • the numbers of visitors to individual pages;
  • when pages were visited;
  • how long users stayed on the page;
  • the IP address of the user of the website;
  • the page they came from;
  • technical data about the device being used to browse the site (such as browser and operating system version, and display size) — we use this data to ensure that the technology our site uses is appropriate for the majority of our users, and how best to display the site for users who have less capable browsers.

More information about Statistics cookies

We use cookies from different partners including Google to provide our analytics data. You can read more about how Google Analytics treats your data on their web site. You can also read Google's full privacy policy.

How do I control Statistics cookies?

Google provides a tool to opt-out of Google Analytics. This is available for all modern browsers in the form of a browser plugin. Additionally, you can control how cookies are set using your browser settings.

3. Preference cookies

Also known as "functionality cookies," these cookies allow a website to remember choices you have made in the past, like what language you prefer, whether you have accepted our cookie policy, what region you would like weather reports for, or what your user name and password are so you can automatically log in.

4. Marketing cookies

The advertisements you see displayed on this, and other, sites are generated by third parties. These services may use their own anonymous cookies to track how many times a particular ad has been displayed to you and may track your visits to other sites where their ads are displayed. Please note that advertisers can only track visits to sites which display their ads or other content. This tracking is anonymous, meaning that they do not identify who is viewing which ads.

Tracking in this manner allows advertisers to show you ads that are more likely to be interesting to you, and also limit the number of times you see the same ad across a wide number of sites. As an example of how advertisers operate, if you recently researched holidays, adverts for holiday operators may subsequently appear on our sites.

We do not have access to, or control over, these third party cookies; nor can we view the data held by these advertisers. Online advertisers provide ways for you to opt-out of your browsing being tracked. More information about the advertisers we use, and how to opt-out, is provided below.

Youtube

We display clips from Youtube related to our purchase opportunities. You can view Youtubes's privacy policy on their website. This page also allows you to control what cookies YouTube saves on your computer.

Google

We work with Google to optimise how Google ads are displayed. You can discover how Google protects your privacy relating to ads at its privacy policy.

How to invest in luxury watches | Guide

Oshin Ahlawat
1.6.2022

multiple luxury/exclusive watches

Investors incorporate alternative assets into their strategy to build a resilient financial portfolio consisting of passion investments and ‘assets of desire’ such as fine luxury watches. In the latest 2022 Frank Knight report, the return of luxury watches for the 10 year period was a staggering +108%.

Whether you want to collect it or sell it later on the secondary market, luxury watches serve as a popular investment option. Aside from their convenient size and storage space, rare timepieces also serve as collectibles and are often used to make a statement in the world of fashion. All these factors help establish the investment potential of investing in luxury watches for any collector or investor.

But in order to invest in watches that reap rewards in the longer run, several factors need to be considered. For example:

What are the luxury watch brands worth investing in?

The truth is that 99.9% of watches are not worth an investment. Read that again. A watch to be worth an investment, not a gamble, requires it to be a reliable asset with a high likelihood to increase in value to the extent that it actually competes with other asset classes.

Thus, a reliable investment watch is a watch that 1) money cannot buy because they are so rare and access is the key or 2) watches you can get at a lower price other people cannot by being able to cut out the retail margin when buying directly from the wholesaler or even manufacturer.

Rare luxury watches from brands such as Cartier, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, F.P. Journe, Richard Mille, A. Lange & Söhne, H. Moser & Cie, Philippe Dufour, De Bethune or similar are often potential investment opportunities. But the importance is the rarity, scarcity and the ability to access those watches at a good price in order for them to meet the strict investment criteria.

Should I Invest in Limited Edition watches?

Yes. The answer is yes. As mentioned above, scarcity is one of the strong drivers of value appreciation for luxury watches that collectors love.

However, it’s extremely hard to access limited edition watches, as they are usually offered to special high-value clients and don’t even end up in retail stores. Once a limited edition watch is released and sold out to selected clients, that watch can no longer be purchased directly from the concessionaire at retail price. As a result, there is usually a surge in demand in the secondary market, and the price of that timepiece will skyrocket.

Limited edition vintage watches bought from the secondary market on platforms such as Chrono24, Chronext or Horando, however, can be a great value-storing investment. They are less likely to lose their worth over time - if you did not pay a premium on the price. For example, a 64-year-old Omega Speedmaster, nicknamed the Tropical Broad Arrow was sold for just over CHF 3.15 million at the autumnal Geneva sale at the premier auction houses.

What is the best strategy to invest in luxury watches?

It is important that you buy the right watch at the right time and also from the right source. If you are a high-end client that is offered rare watches directly from the brands or concessionaires - great! But unfortunately this holds only for a very small number of people.

For watch enthusiasts who are not there yet, it’s important to understand if you buy a watch for collecting purposes or driven by investment and high return motivations.

If you’re looking to make money from luxury watch investing and don’t really care about wearing the watch, make sure you’re able to access the right watches, at the right time and the right price. This requires expertise, knowledge and industry network. Another option would be to invest through the few trustworthy watch investment vehicles in the world.

The WatchFund based in Singapore is the leading and most renowned watch investment vehicle with a track record of 20% p.a. average historical appreciation for their club of high-net-worth individual investors. Investors can invest directly through WatchFund from 250,000$ minimum investment amounts or through WatchFund’s partner Konvi allowing crowd-investing for retail investors from only 250€.

luxury watches worth investing in with WatchFund and Konvi's fractionalisation platform

Pros:

  • Access to very rare limited edition watches
  • Access to watches at wholesale prices with strong collector demand to resell at a profit
  • Very high potential returns (beating the stock market in the past)
  • Very low correlation to other assets like stocks, bonds, crypto
  • Strong potential inflation-hedge
  • Safe storage & insurance

Cons:

  • To preserve their value, you cannot wear the watches
  • You cannot choose the watches based on personal taste, as they are chosen based on collector demand, scarcity and the highest ROI potential
  • Liquidity is not as high as on the stock market - watches need 3-5 years to maximize their return potential and give you the best ROI
